What to Expect When Moving to Williams Lake

“Live comfortably, live happily, and live fulfilled” This might as well be on the flag of Williams Lake, because those three things are so easy to accomplish when living here. Williams Lake, located in British Columbia and nestled in the Cariboo region, hosts a number of activities year round: homegrown restaurants, and a culture that dates back to its creation in the 1800’s. When you’re moving somewhere new, there has to be a catching point, there has to be a reason beyond the great price that convinces relocation.

The lifestyle at Williams Lake is something that I can honestly say does just that. Getting bored can now be another thing you leave behind with your old neighborhood as you prepare to live in a welcoming community that supports itself with a number of local shops and restaurants. So what can you expect with the lifestyle of William Lake? Let’s find out!

Culture

Williams Lake was founded in 1860 and began as an old settler’s town. It took no time at all for the city to grow thanks to accessible roads, flocking of merchants, and government enhancements.

Every year for the past 90 years, the Williams Lake Stampede has taken place during the Canada Day long weekend. Thanks to the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association, there are events like barrel racing, team roping, and bull riding. Patrons and participants come from all of North America to be a part of this national happening.

Along with this event there is the Tourism Discovery Centre and The Station House Gallery located in our gorgeously restored, one of a kind railway station from the 1920’s. Come take a closer look at our history here.

Shopping

Thanks to pertinent growth, Williams Lake has become more noticed as a town on the map. With Prosperity Ridge Shopping Centre, residents of Williams Lake no longer have to travel far just for day to day shopping needs. From pets to budget shoppers, from women’s clothing to men’s, there is something for everyone at Prosperity Ridge. Just listen to the name!

I can’t forget about the downtown retailers though; specialty boutiques that can’t be found anywhere else. An example of this would be the local staple Red Shreds, which offers equipment for all of your prominent outdoor sports, like biking, climbing, and skiing. For those who appreciate the finer things in life and enjoying curling up with a good book, there is Open Book which is an independent retailer that has graced Williams Lake for nearly 50 years!

Restaurants

It’s common for families to have their favorite restaurants when they have lived in the same town for quite a while, but I am about to introduce you to one of your new favorite restaurants. With more than 35 restaurants to choose from, there is no need to also repeat the same place over and over again.

Red Tomato Pies topping the charts of Trip Advisor will cover all of the cheesy needs for Pizza enthusiasts—visitors and citizens of Williams Lake alike. To pair with the new book you got from Open Book, you can visit New World Coffee & Tea House to wind down and enjoy a renowned coffee while eating. From smoothies, Fresh Mexican Cuisine, to Pubs there is something for everyone, even the pickiest of eaters.
